you want to ask for example 'do you have a sisters?' or 'do you have any brothers or sisters?'
do i not have a word for 'a' or 'any' in this sentence? like 'do you have sisters' do you have brothers or sisters?'
У вас есть...........
im learning literally basics i know this isnt good, its not different cases and is basically just tourist but i figure at the moment until i get used to it its better than nothing so please please as always just explain basically to me.

| No, "a" and "any" aren't translated in this case.
У вас есть братья или сёстры?
У вас есть брат или сестра?

| 'do you have a sisters?' or 'do you have any brothers or sisters?'
Why needed "a" and "any" in these senteses, in these cases ?
Please answer seriously to me, I want to understand the logic.
You can say also:
У вас есть любые братья или сёстры?
У вас есть любые братья и сёстры?
У вас есть какие-нибудь братья или сёстры?
...
У вас есть одна сестра?
У вас есть какая-нибудь сестра?
У вас есть любая сестра?
...
Но это будет глупо звучать.
But it will sounds stupid in Russian, because xxxx is superfluous in these cases .

| Very simple, how will change the idea of these phrases if you say this
'do you have a sisters?' or 'do you have any brothers or sisters?
without "a" and "any"?
If nohow, when these is not needed

| It's not that hard debraj. qza is just adding something like an adjective. A non defining number, like: do you have some (like 2, 3, 4...) brothers or sisters?
And a number, У вас есть одна сестра? = Do you have one sister?
Like qza says: such a question sounds a bit silly Hope this helps. Just remember Russian language doesn't use 'a' and 'the'.

| Не совсем так, я имел в виду
одна = некая
У вас есть некая сестра?
"некая" примерно соответствует артиклю "а", т.е. неопределённа
"та самая", или просто "та" примерно соответствует артиклю "тне", т.е. конкретно определена...
но не используется, или используется в редких случаях.
"любая" = any | |
