hi i knew about this site for a long time now. i got interested in the russian language since 2004 if im not wrong. i am native spanish speaker but learned a while ago. however in my country i cant find no place to learn russian. recently in the university they started to teach it. but unfortunately its only one guy and the courses are endless because he has like 4 different classes and you basically over pay for like 15 minutes of his time. when you actually pay for like 2 hours. so it is quite frustrating. so i was studying in this website and then i decided to buy the RosettaStone language packs. i have to say i learned a lot but little by little you start to get bored of it cuz you dont have no one to practice it. so i got into the ICQ messenger. i noticed that in ICQ you can find easily a lot of russian people to chat. it is hard to get them to answer you but once they do. you are in. the only bad thing is the time difference. but well you get to practice a bit your knowledge. i have been studying on and off for the past 3 years and i do think i still have a lot to learn. and i need someone to practice with me. i dont care if you are still studying or if you are native russian speaker. i can help you with spanish or english. but i really need help. i am planning to visit russia (i have been planning a long time ago) but a lot of my russian friends say that russian lack of patience and i wish i could speak it fluently by the time i go there. ok i hope someone can reply to me. and good luck to everybody. russian is so cool and i love the culture and the people and the language itself. bye

Hi Gang,

I am new here. I just love the language so far. My grandmother was fluent and I am sorry I never learned Russian from her. I am now finally going to learn about my heritage. I am starting College this fall and major in History and minor in Russian.

A friend recommended to do the Rosetta Stone to start me out? Anyone try that? Please let me know if it is worth it, kind of expensive.

I've heard that Rosetta Stone is one of the best self-study systems out there. If I were you, however, I wouldn't buy it.

Your college classes will be enough to learn the language, especially if you also study abroad for one semester in a Russian-speaking country. (Considering your major, I definitely recommend studying abroad, because besides immersing you in the language, it would also give you a deeper understanding of the country's culture and history)

You won't need Rosetta Stone to supplement your studies, because you'll have textbooks and most likely a language computer lab with Russian software. If you wanted to learn some basics before your college courses start, I think this website is a great resource and will give you a nice foundation for free.

Thanks for the input. I believe you are right.

Unfortunately my finances will not allow me travel for at least 3 years, so school labs will have to do.

I feel I am way behind the eight ball on this forum. I had to look up a bunch of words already just in reading some blogs. I know it takes time, and I am definitely happy to have found this site.

Привет! lol hello i to am new to this site. Rosetta Stone will teach you the spoken language, and is best method to do so. written language is a little different....
